Day 1 Recap

The time difference is still screwing me up so it is 6am in Vancouver and I am wide awake with a headache. So I decided to write about a few moments from yesterday:

  • Flying all the way across Canada in one day is HARD. I realized that I had never done it before. The last time I was out here we had been in Ontario for a week so the flight wasn't as long and the time change wasn't as dramatic. It was kind of neat to go coast to coast in a day though.
  • Even though they were both long, the flights were fine. I didn't feel too cramped. I watched Love & Savagery, A Serious Man (which I thought was kind of weird, not really sure why it got a Best Picture nomination), 3 episodes of Two and a Half Men, and 2 episodes of The Mentalist (which I am really starting to get into, thanks Mom and Dad).
  • The mountains around here are just as beautiful as I remember. They are something to see and it is cool flying over them
  • The number of Olympic jerseys and clothing is unreal. You can't go two feet without seeing someone wearing a Canada jersey. And all the other nations are represented too. I saw a lot of Russian, Czech, Swedish, Finnish, Belarussian, Slovak and other flags and jerseys around.
  • I didn't know what to make of Molson Canadian Hockey House when I first heard about it before Christmas, but after hearing more about it and actually going there yesterday, whoever came up with the idea is a genius. I thought that no one would pay $99 to go watch a hockey game on a big screen, let alone $400 for the VIP passes. But they are all sold out. It was a pretty cool place. The $99 Fan Zone passes that Matt and I had got us access to the place and a free buffet, which was actually decent, but beer was $7.50 and spirits were $10. Luckily Coke was free! There were 3 gigantic screens, a few interactive displays, a few bands playing, and some trivia, which we unfortunately did not get to see. My only beef was that there weren't nearly enough seats. After a long flight where I had to sit down for 9 hours I was forced to stay on my feet for almost 5 straight before I pilfered a chair. But overall I had a great time there. It was a lot of fun. I'll post a few selected photos below!
So now on to day 2. Matt is working. Heather is volunteering at Hockey House again at 2 so we might check out the Bay before she heads down there again. I am going to hang out near GM Place to see if I can get a scalper's ticket to the Canada-Switzerland hockey game. I saw empty seats there the other day so there have to be some around!

That's all for now, I'll have more updates throughout the day!
